Because we all have to learn to amicably get along. I know non-smokers hate having to deal with smoke, especially while they are eating. I'm a smoker and smoke still pisses me off while I'm eating. I don't smoke in my apartment either, even when it's cold outside.
On the flipside of that, smokers should be allowed the freedom to enjoy a cigarette while they wait on their food. In some small restaurants where the 2 sections cannot be properly separated this can be a problem, but it should be up to the individual restaurant owner which customer base he will favour.

I also think banning smoking in bars is the most retarded thing I have ever heard of. People like to smoke when they drink, even people who don't smoke on a regular basis smoke when they drink. And as for the poor bartenders, come off it. If you have a problem with 2nd hand smoke find a different line of work. Just like sawmill workers and textile workers and construction workers. There are risks and annoyances to every job.

Also in other public buildings I don't see anything wrong with having a room where smokers can smoke closed off from the rest of the building. Though I would only get behind this for when it's really cold outside.

We can all learn to live together harmoniously. But there has to be give and take on both sides.

the government has no business telling me what i can and cannot do to myself

no real long term studies really connect second hand to any illness i will double filter the smoke anyway once through cotton once through me

and the consumer is what controls the market if a smoke free environment was something people wanted then it would have already happened the market will mandate that things happen if places will stay competitive. hasnt happened the incentives for places to go non smoking was not there.

Here's only one.

Freedom.

Any nonsense about being free from second-hand smoke is bull! The freedom of the individual is protected by the Constitution from the mob of society. Anti-smoking nazis should open their own non-smoking places and stay out of smoking places. It's just that simple.

I'll give you just ONE because it is scientifically correct:

Because people are allowed to drive in public places.

Prove it to yourself (you have to do these steps in order):
1) Inhale from a cigarette continuously for five minutes
2) Suck on a running car's tailpipe for five minutes

Which one was more toxic?

Oops, Step 2 killed you...

Nobody ever talks about car exhaust because we can't imagine living without our cars.
