square root ( its the number you multiplied by itself to get the number you have) ex: sqrt of 16 = 4, sqrt of 36 = 6, sqrt of 64=8

That's used in Calculator on Windows. It means square root.

For example, 144 sqrt=12.

The square of any number is that number multiplied by itself.

Say you have five nickels across, and five down. Five's square is 25.

The square root of a number is that number, but it has to be able to get that number by multiplying it by itself.

Like, 16. The sqrt of 16 is 4, because 4*4=16 and 4^2=16.

The principal square is a whole number. The principal square root is a whole number.

But you can still have decimals as a sqrt, like with triangles.

The square root in Math is essentially reversing any number that is squared with an exponent.

ex: 5 to the 2nd power= 25

ex: the square root of 25 = 5

a more complicated interpitation would be to consider a number thats not squared perfectly!

ex: what is the square root of 20?

Well what goes into 20 twice when multiplied?

Somewhere between 4 and 5

My best answer would be rounded to about 4.47

Hope this helps!

In mathematics, a square root of a number x is a number whose square (the result of multiplying the number by itself) is x. Every non-negative real number x has a unique non-negative square root, called the principal square root . For example, the principal square root of 9 is 3 because . The other square root of 9 (not the principal square root) is −3.
