No, if you love service and are proficient at it, it can be very rewarding. I have been a server (hospitality engineer!!) as I call it for 20 plus years. I am very well paid, have good benefits, and work a very flexible schedule. Good Luck

I waited tables for thirteen years. That was in my younger days. I also did it for another 5 or so as a moonlighter, and have pondered over doing it again to supplement income, but I'm just too old baby.
It's good money, and if you're young enough to withstand being on your feet all night or all day long, then go for it.
Once you work in that environment your whole outlook on life will change. you're dealing with people in a hurry, or people who are expecting perfection because they are doing the "special occasion" thing.
I would suggest starting at a steakhouse or a seafood restaurant, because the tabs are higher, and IF YOU DO A good job, you will make more money.
Keep in mind that waitresses only make around $2.15 and hour, so you are dependent totally on your tips as income. You HAVE to be one-on-one with your tables and give them what they need.
Yes, occasionally you will get a table that doesn't tip you, but try your best to let it go. As much as you may want to chase them (and I have been afforded the luxury of bosses letting me do so) down the street, a 10% tip may even out to 15% by the later 20% tip you get.
Good luck if you choose this route. It is hard work, and late hours...but you make friends for life in the restaurant business.

It can be a fun job. For the most part, I always enjoyed it. You go home at the end of the night, cash in your pocket. Every day, is a new day. I waited tables while I went to school, it is the fastest way to make money. Why work at the mall for a flat $6-$8 dollars an hour, when you can work a 5 or 6 hour shift at a restaurant and walk out with $100?

No, if you are a good waitress you make good money in tips. The job is not boring and you meet tons of people. You also don't sit down all day so it's good exercise. :)

On the other hand, it's hard work and you do run into difficult people.

pick out a few restaurants that YOU enjoy eating at. when you go to apply, ask the waitresses what they think of it - they'll be honest. between my wages and my tips, i average $20-30/hour, double that if on weekends, which adds up when working an 8 hour shift. the only thing that's annoying are the people who are hell bent on somehow getting a free meal, so they complain about everything. and you will learn the RACES that no one wants to serve, because they are bad tippers. good luck!

Eh. It's a lot of fun, but you'll get annoyed a lot. There are some...groups of people that you'll groan at when they get sat in your section. They're the first to complain about the smallest thing ( kitchen errors are ALWAYS going to be YOUR fault), and even when everything is first-rate, your'e lucky to get a 3% tip. I worked at Pappas Seafood for 3 years, and although the other waitstaff was amazing, the managers always took things a little overboard. Be prepared for three weeks in training of the get go, and you have to know every ingrediant to everything. For example, a bowl of seafood gumbo is going to have 1.5 oz. of crabmeat, 3 shrimp, 2 oysters, rice, celery, onion, bell pepper, rice, and the exact spices and ingrediants in the broth.
The hours are long, I usually went in at 4, and left about 1. If your'e prepped to keep a fast paced, multi-tasking job, go for it. Money is up and down. You'll have nights where you haul 150+, and days that you actually PAY THEM to work there. Tip pool is a @#$%.

No,
if you like working with people,
like working evenings and weekends,
have a lot of patience and a good memory,
waitressing is a good living.

Most customers are nice,
some are just jerks.

No, you aren't being delusional! It is really fun to work in a restaurant and the political correct term is now server. Servers make really good money in tips at popular restaurants. You should give it a try!

no-i've been a waitress for 8 years..its fast money and it keeps you very buisy..and you always have cash that same day you work. If you do become one work at a nice classy restaurant...the higher the prices the higher the tip.
