I in no way whatsoever condone smoking weed while you are pregnant, HOWEVER, my mom smoked pot while she was pregnant with me. I am 25. I have two eyes, ten fingers, ten toes, and my IQ is 136. I turned out ok and NO I AM NOT A DRUGGIE! I doubt that her doctor told her it was ok. Her doc probably said is was better to smoke pot than cigarettes. Ciggies have all sorts of pesticides and chemicals and the smoke has CO2 which is very bad for mother and baby. Marijuana is a more natural substance that is not so fooled around with. It rarely has pesticides and chemicals added to it. Not many studies can prove that THC causes any birth defects since smoking the stuff while pregnant carries about the same risks as smoking cigarettes or having a glass of wine. Smoking marijuana also helps with nausea if the mother has severe morning sickness. Cancer patients are often prescribed Marinol (a derivative of marijuana containing THC) for that same reason or they smoke it, California anyone? Its probably not good for the baby and does carry some risks but not usually life threatening or fatal. Hope this helps, by the way I DO NOT SMOKE POT and firmly believe that no one should do anything to possibly cause even the slightest risk to a baby.

I think your sister is pulling your leg, not only is smoking weed illegal but no doctor in their right mind would tell a mother to be that its OK to smoke it, they would tell you straight away to quit for the health of the baby. It has been noted that it can cause preterm babies and also slow the development down so the baby might not form properly in time. Don't believe your sister she is only saying this as she is an addict to pot. and does not want to give it up even at the risk of harming her pregnancy.

Your sister's doctor most likely did not tell her that it was OK to smoke pot. It is still considered an illegal drug and no doctor will tell you to smoke it(unless like Sarah J said you live in California). Even if the doctor said it was ok and you think it is morally wrong I would continue to push the topic and tell her to switch doctors. And point out that it's for the unborn child that she's carrying that can't make decisions on whether or not it smokes pot is the reason you are concerned.

Highly doubt that a doctor told a pregnant woman it was ok to smoke weed!

I think your sister is pulling your leg, no way is smoking weed something you do during a pregnancy. The fetus will be a druggie. I hope she stops now. Tell her from me, that I think she is irresponsible and immature and hope she'll give the baby up for adoption, so she can grow up first. She's not fit to be a mother. Sorry.

No! What school did that doctor go to? What ever you put into your system while you are pregnant goes straight to your fetus. Your sisters baby will be addicted to weed before it is even born. And besides that weed kills your brain cells! You should never take anything like that while your are pregnant. It causes long term damage. Please tell your sister do get another opinion (doctor).

I've heard of doctors saying this before. Smoking weed during pregnancy can cause ADD in children.

What? I've never heard of such a thing! I would never, never smoke or drink anything while pregnant! It's just not worth the chance of your baby being born with something wrong! That is horrible!
