Okay, I met this kid who seemed one hundred percent normal, I talked to him for like an hour and he was white and everything. So we carry on our normal conversation and then all of a sudden we're talking about food, and he says he hasn't eaten since four a.m. and I was like "Why?????!!!!!!!! What's wrong with you?" and he said "It's Ramadan" He's actually Muslim, and he's white. I don't mean to be racist, I know African Americans become Muslims, but is this normal? I don't mean to insult religions, but I would never voluntarily choose to be Muslim, seems too strict and I don't understand the appeal. How many white people become Muslim?

Okay, yeah I know what Ramadan is and I've had plenty of Muslim friends. And I'm not trying to be racist or anything, just come on! I've heard of African American Jewish people, but being Jewish is cool and doesn't have any real extremists. But seriously, why the beep would a white guy be Muslim? Does anyone have a real answer?

Millions of them. Arabs and Iranians and Pakistanis and Indonesians are, ethnically, members of the "white" race. It isn't the skin color but the bone structure, especially of the face, that makes the distinction.

I am a third generation american and I am a muslim. I am a contributing member of society.I am wondering if you know that not only is islam the fastest growing religion in the world but that Arabs are only 12 to 15 percent.
It sounds to me that you get your information about muslims from the stereotypes that are on TV.I dont think you are racist I just think you are misinformed. Thousands of people have converted to islam from all walks of life. They range from atheists to priests and missionaries even a former rock star named Cat Stevens, look into it. If you would like more info about people who converted try this website and read some of their stories. Feel free to contact me for more info.

Oh! for Heaven's sake......why wouldn't a "white, normal-type" guy want to be a Muslim????? Islam is one of the world's major religions, so it must hold good for the followers----or why else would they follow it????? I don't find this shocking--maybe because I'm almost 60--because I've known LOTS of "white" Muslims.

PS How could any Muslim WANT to be your friend? Or do you hide the "real" you???

I am not answeringthis to insult you, but if it happens well my friends and lifestyle will accept your degredation. Oh please, I was borm a wasp. Have grand relatives who were secretary in KKK and the easy thing is to PUT my beliefs on my surroundings. But some how along time ago I had the good concience to shut my mouth and open my eyes and heart or sum **** and have a little courage to see how another lives. So if you are so sure of yourself you wont be afraid of a little objectivy would you? You have the rest of your life to actually learn sumtin.

I used to work with a man that was a white muslim convert, his mom was catholic, and his sister married a jewish man. He said they get together around the holidays, but don't discuss religion.

A lot of them start out that way. There's no reason white people can't be Arabs, for instance, and that's just one example.

Not trying to be tacky but, I didn't know that religion had a "color". As for Ramadan, its a period of time that they fast during daylight hours for this period of time. Dont have all the details but did learn a little about it in Saudi Arabia and Iraq
