why when people are in love,1/2 of them cant be with eachother?

and it hurts so bad.we both hurt but we cant do nothing about it.we are both single, but he is in the navy and he got stationed somewhere else.and he keeps asking me to go, and marry him,but he is leaving next week to bagdad and im so devastated with the thought of that i may never see him again.i am just devastated.
