It is unfortunately not possible. A mobile company requires assurance that they will be paid on a monthly basis. Rigorous checks are conducted and if all is in order a direct debit is set up. The customer has little or no control over this process. If he did, what assurance does the mobile company have that the customer won't just use the minutes and texts and not pay..

Don't know about the United States but here in the UK the general rule is that banks DO require monthly payment for the phone and call charges to be taken from a UK registered bank. As "twinkles" correctly points out this is so the bank will receive the regular monthly payment - their guarantee if you like - when it falls due. The easiest way for this is via a direct debit.

Nowadays, in the UK the mobile companies usually do a credit check on those wanting a monthly contract.

I do know that a few years ago the banks did accept monthly payments from other sources but this usually incurred an extra monthly charge of between £2 - £3. Because of fraud the general rule of thumb now is 'no card - no monthly contract'.

Get a Tracfone. You can buy them at many stores... Walmart, 7-11, Sam's Club, etc. Best price is Walmart. You get the phone with a card for 1 yr service and 300 min. Then buy more cards with just minutes. You can add the minutes on line or by phone, using the codes on the card. There are other phone with similar plans. Tracfone is now on the Cingular (sp?) network and uses their connections all over the country

Next to impossible in the UK. Dunno about the US. But there are always ways and means if you really want/need something. Any chance you get someone to take out an extra phone on their contract? Make sure you intend to pay them though otherwise you lose a mate and a contract phone. Erm, can't thing of anything else of the top of my head. Good luck

you need either a driving licence and a recent bank statement

or

a passport and a bill (gas, water, electricity, phone bill for landline) recent one again, within the last 3 months

obviously a bank account would help with the credit check but its not needed, you can pay the bills at the bank
