Not sure why this question is directed to "the United States." My belief is that self-esteem and humility are not mutually exclusive traits. Self-esteem is not necessarily the same as grandiosity which would conflict with humility. Humility doesn't have to mean self-degradation which would be the opposite of self-esteem. So no I don't see a conflict between self-esteem and humility.

I don't believe self esteem has much to do with humility. One can have a good opinion of oneself while being humble and without resorting to blatant bragging.

I don't see much humility in many Americans I know, though. I do think that humility will lose out; America is an individualist society as as thus, it's much more about putting yourself out there and separating from the crowd. One cannot afford to be lowkey about accomplishments in the US and this is even becoming true in traditional collectivist cultures like in East Asia.

yes, promoting self-esteem will win because promoting virtues make non-religious people feel their morals are being violated. also promoting self-esteem makes people think they can get all the monetary advances in life - they can stomp all over the humble people and get cars and money and high paying jobs. but the humble people generally know they have something better waiting for them in the afterlife.

Self esteem comes from accomplishments. Humility is keeping quiet about it.
