Playing slots embodies embracing simple raw luck that should ALWAYS be played with degrees of common sense and logic.
AVOID the progressives and multi-line slots: those merely sucker in people, sucking out their $$$ fast. Some single line slots are not much better; after some time, you'll come to see which such slots are sucker ones to avoid.
What I do is instead of bee-lining to a favorite slot machine, I take my time and walk the slot area floor. I listen to that distinctive "jackpot payout" sound and then scope out the slots in the nearby area of the payoff slot. The logic here is: if one slot just paid off--then another one nearby will--but you can't just rely on that!!!
Slots today embrace today's high technologly, being legally "bent" to a "fair" degree by use of computer monitoring chips that regulate the roll combinations and speed of each roll.
Today's slots are nothing short of being gaming computers. Every computer has a clock--bear that in mind; some hours may have a slot strike jackpots/payouts better than others.
Cast a wary eye on casino signs boasting "loosest slots".
Experienced slot players tell if a slot is "hot" or "cold" by merely playing $20 from what few rolls given, based on the slot play demonination (penny/nickel/quarter/dollar).
Personally, I like quarter slots. Penny slots will allow me far longer play time, however. I'm not THAT brave for $1, $5 or higher ones.
Coin play is another thing to look at too. I am wary of slots that have 4 or more coin play payouts; I stick to the two or three coin play machines. And I use logic, choosing to roll a combination of one, two "Max Bet" rolls, trying to find the one that pays off.
And I play with discipline: I allot myself a manageable set amount and if I win--great; if I bust out, I go home.
