Every other month, at the moment I ovulate, I am in excruciating pain for about 1 hour or so and have to take narcotics. Does anyone else have this problem? If so, any ideas of how to stop this? Thanks!

since it is every other month....possibly you have a cyst on the ovary on that side...make an appointment with your Gyn so that they can check it out...probably nothing dangerous but those cysts can be extremely painful, especially around the time of ovulation with all of the hormonal changes your body is going through...good luck!!

I used to have painful ovulation ... as well as excruciating periods. Not too many women experience this kind of pain (in regards to ovulation), but, for the odd few ... it makes it a pretty difficult couple of days. I could feel which ovary I was ovulating from and my cervix hurt like h*ll ... when I had to sit down. My daughter is now the same way. Genetics ... gotta luv em eh?!!

The only thing that seemed to work was a prescription strength Ibuprofen ... 600mg three times a day. I tried ... I think it was called Darvon, it's supposed to be a really strong pain killer ... but did nothing for the pain.

I think you should go and see a OB/GYN ... just to make sure that everything is alright. If all checks out ok, give the stronger Ibuprofen a try ... it helps for swelling as well. Good luck......

OT: Jeeeez .... men are so d*mn lucky!! *scowls*

It used to feel like someone was stabbing me in that part of my abdomen - I started taking oral contraceptives - no ovulation, no pain.

Yes, called mittelschmerz. Try the link someone else provided. Also, I think the pain should only be on one side. Narcotics? Where are you getting those??

Short of a DNC I don't know. It could be diet. something not agreeing with you.
See a doctor or get a second opinion. you need treatment not narcotics. You surely need to know the root of your problem.

I did as a teen. After giving birth the first time, it stopped. It's hormonal.
