You probably have a pretty good idea of how the majority of your classmates feel about certain issues, such as sex, violence, politics, etc.
What you need to do is to play the devil's advocate. If many people in your class feel that the war in Iraq is wrong, argue convincingly that it is a just war. If they hate abortion -- argue the benefits of the procedure.
Get where I'm going with this? You might make a few people mad, but if you do your research and argue convincingly, you'll impress the hell out of them. Besides, you already have your counterarguments lined up -- these are the reasons your classmates feel the war is wrong or why they disagree with abortion.
Ready-made topic here.

If it's a pretty progressive class, you might choose spousal rape - is it rape or not. To this day, some argue that it isn't.
You could also try Electoral vs. Popular Vote.
