I will be traveling from San Francisco to Mendocino/Fort Bragg and can not drive on winding road. I am wondering if it is winding road.

You can't avoid some winding stretches completely, as those towns are actually in pretty difficult terrain. However, you can minimize your exposure to it.

Once you cross the Golden Gate Bridge...

Do not take the Pacific Coast Highway (1) from Marin County, that's a long and challenging drive (albeit beautiful).

Keep driving on the wide-laned Redwood Freeway (101) until you hit Highway 128. This way, the bulk of your journey will be spent on the 101 instead of the 1.

Exit to Highway 128 (westbound) until you hit the Pacific Coast Highway (1). Just to the North is Mendocino and Ft. Bragg.

On the map, Highway 20 looks closer, but it's actually a much more difficult drive.

There is more then one way to go from S.F. to Mendocino.
If you do not want a winding road then do NOT take route 1. It is the most beautiful, but also the longest and definitely winding.
Just go up the 101 and cross over to Fort Bragg when you get up to the Ukiah area.
