I got very drunk and I blacked out and only remembered my boyfriend on top of me choking me. I broke up with him because I couldn't believe he would do that. My parents were supprised because he's not that kind of guy. I asked him what happened, he told me a diff story then what I thought, he said I attacked him and everytime he would try to leave i would attack him again. I now realize that I have a drinking problem, my boyfriend wants me to move back in with him and agree to never drink again. I need to tell my parents about my problem and what he said really happened. What do I do? Do I go back to my boyfriend? I'm going to get help for my drinking and possible anger problems. Have you had a similiar experience? are you an alcholic?

I had a horrible experience of seeing a young man get so drunk he beat his mother, (at their apartment), sit on top of her and try and choke her (he is skinny and lithe and she was strong and fat, but still!)

He was scary and untrustworthy to me on a physical level after that. I feared for my own safety around him.

It could be true... that you may have attacked him and dont remember it. The key part here to note is that you drank so much you blacked out and DONT remember anything. Its each person's duty to be responsible for themselves, their safety, their health. You are now in a confusion to get back with your bf because his story conflicts what you rememeber, what you saw (him choking you). Whats the truth? If you move back in and he beats you, then you know who got the correct version that night.

Better still, get into a program, hold off on moving back in with your boyfriend until you resolve this issue. Until you are sober and responsible you have little chance of keeping a relationship strong and fulfilling, no matter who it is with.

Honey, I think you should both seek some counseling before you move back in. You need to resolve some anger issues definitely. Are you attending AA? Or at least some form of real rehab? This is important because under stress is when an alcoholic really has to fight the urge to drink. I commend you for realizing your problems. It is true that that is a big step. After you have had some counseling (both of you together and separately) have a good handle on managing your drinking problem if the two of you still want to be together then yeah, I wish you both the best.

I'll say a prayer.

Yeah hun, it'll all be good, once you get your drinking and anger under control, that'll be the best gift to give him to say your sorry, it'll be hard but not impossible, you can do it, the biggest mistake you can make is not getting help, possibly spend some time away from him and ask your family and very close friends for support, then surprise your bf with a shining smile he may not have seen in awhile, and when you get a smile from him back, you know things'll be all good, good luck babe.

Receive aid about your problem... but do not immediately return to your boyfriend. You both should put put your relationship on hiatus until you prove you are seriously on the way to recovery. Also this may help sort out if there is a problem with violence on his part. as well.
