I agree. Voting by the gut is not such a good idea because we are an open and trusting people- or just really gullible- and it's fairly easy for politicians to present an image that has little to do with reality. For instance, Bush painted himself as a downhome country boy with a ranch. Meanwhile, he was born in Conneticut and bought the ranch right before he started running for office.
However, I don't think we need to read six newspapers a day to get the information we need to vote. And sometimes, you barely need any info at all. I've got Santorum for a senator. It's no question for me that I'll be voting for Casey next month. Hell, I'd vote for a dead tuna if it would get Santorum out of office. The only way we'd do worse is if my other choice was Cheney.

I think that the voters should take the time to go over each candidates' platforms and see which one represents them in the most issues. If the voters still don't know, then maybe they should vote with their gut feeling. Instant Runoff Voting would help voters by ranking candidates in order of preference.

Voting "from the gut" is dangerous and irresponsible. As citizens, we have the responsibility to gather as much knowledge on the issues as possible, weigh the positions of each candidate and make a fully informed and educated choice.

I always research as well. It only mkaes snese to find out how the person has reaced in the past to predict how they will effect change in the future. There are so many politicians out there now it's hard to keep track of them all. By going with a feeling you could be voting for somebody who does everything the opposite as you would like.

I agree. I educate myself as much I can before the election so I KNOW who or what I'm voting for. One thing I never vote for, though, is judges. In MN, judges are on the ballot to keep their position. I do not believe judges should be a political position, and this makes it one.

When it comes to propositions, I do the research. When it comes to a candidate for office, I gather all the information I can, but it usually comes down to a gut feeling.
