It depends on what you're using it for. If you're only going to use it on a computer, either disk is fine. If you plan to use it in a car or stereo, cd-r is the way to go...make sure you finalize (most cd-burning software automatically finalizes).

It is better to burn a CD onto a CD-RW becuase CD-RW discs are rewritable. If you ever want to burn something else onto a CD-RW disc, all you have to do is erase what's already on there. CD-RW discs are more flexible than CD-R discs because CD-R discs only allow you to write/burn on it ONCE.

I burn music CDs on with a CD-R disk so I can play the CD in my truck. Many CD players cannot read a CD-RW disk (computers usually can).

the benefits of cd-rw are nil at best, cd-r's are so cheep now a days that you might as well get a 100 pack and just use them.
a cd-rw, though rewriteable, are more expencive and go bad real quick then you end up losing whats on them. I'd stick to cd-r.

let us assume you have a writer that will write RW.

RW CD's cost a bit more. So, if you want an entire CD and do not want to rewrite it, that is, you want a permanent CD, there are advantages of using the cheaper R CD.

If you only want to use it temporarily, such as transferring to a different computer, or it might be changed, then use the RW so you can reuse it.

simple:

Cd-r is one time only

cd-rw is rewriteable (hence the name) so you can erase the data, and put more on.

If it's a backup cd use a cd-rw, if it's for music use cd-r (most players can read that as compared to cd-rw)
