They think that one of my welds came off/cracked/broke. Can it be fixed or do they have to get a whole new one?

It would be far safer and more economical to replace the subframe. If could be welded, but in order to do it properly I'm thinking it would need to be removed, which then begs the question of "why don't you simply replace it" at that stage.

The only way that a subframe / cradle gets cracked is through an impact (or impacts) that far exceed the design of the unit. Did you hit something? If so, are you turning this in to your insurance agent for an accident claim?

Do NOT have this fixed unless the repairer is an A++ welder and /or a custom fabricator or race car builder. Tolerances are critical on any subframe plus the fact your suspension mounts directly to it. A fabricator will have no problem repairing it -- they always over-engineer frame systems.

Of course it can if its broken or cracked. If its rusted you may have to get a section off another car.
