Britain. They had more soldiers and better army. We were the underdogs.

Britain:
superior equipment - the british had a full stock of weapons, ammunitions, cannons, clothes, boats. Most of the colonists didn't even have proper attire and some had to fight barefooted. Also the colonists were always on the lookout for ammo because they were constantly in short supply. ^^ can't win wars if the guns aren't loaded :)
superior training - the british had 'proper' military heirachy and command structure, and their troops were all 'properly' trained, the colonists had some fighting experience but a good portion off them never fought and were fresh from the farms
proper funding - the british army had money to go around, whereas the colonists were breaking their piggybanks to get some cash
superior navy - one of the most powerful navies in the 18th century, a superior navy means better logistics-- one of the key elements in winning a war
i hope this helps, but I guess the englishmen never won despite all the advantages they had.

well probably Britain with it's trained army and giant navy, on the record books anyway though half the ships were not in use or operable. The colonies were just a bunch of untrained militia men for the most part. However the colonists were motivated.

The initial answer would be Britian, seeing as they were far better funded, had a stronger Navy and had better military leaders. But the observant bystander would notice that the Colonists were just coming off the war in the Appalacians with the Mexicans and the French and were on thier toes and had a good malitia system set up. Also, they had a strong group of local leaders that were willing to cooperate sans ego. Also the ties with the French that prooved a godsend are not to be neglected. So I would have gone with the Colonists but I wouldn't have put all of my money on it. Best of Luck.

A betting man would have had to go with Britain, which was at the time the most powerful nation on the planet. Only a few lucky accidents, and some good generalship (among some generalship that was truly bad -- read "1776" for details) enabled the colonies to survive.

Well it would be up to what the neutral observer knows about combat. If its just a person who knows nothing about combat they would think the British would win due to their organization, equipment, naval availability, and available numbers. But if they knew about combat they would probably place their bets on the Colonist just for the shear fact that they had home field advantage. The colonists weren't underdogs, people fight at home differently than when they are away because when you are away you can't use advantage of terrain, because you don't know it. The colonist also had quick access to supplies and help from each other, British didn't have this available to them, they only had access to what they brought or stole.

Obviously Britain. It was much more powerful and colonies had nothing. Only 1776 when the colonies decided to rebel, they began to prepare for the revolution and George Washington joined the rebellion became their leader, won the revolution and became the first president of USA. Hope this helps.

Britain definitely, since at the time, it was the world power. They had a huge army and navy, with lots of trained soldiers. On the other hand, the colonists were mostly farmers who were descendants of English outcasts; they didn't have a proper militia.

Britain. There were, at that time, the greatest empire the world had ever seen. Their navy was mistress of the seas; all the seas. Their army had just crushed the French, also on the North American continent. It looked as if there would be no contest, yet there was.
