I am really embarassed by my name. I am a guy but only know girls with my name. My mom named me after a place where I was conceived and thinks it's cute. She did it before Brooklyn Beckham but just uses that as another example of it not being that uncommon. So she won't let me change it because she says its sentimental.

Do any of you know any guys with names more commonly associated with girls? Did they get picked on much? How did they turn out? Did they change their names when they got a chance?

Thanks

C.

I knew guys named Kim and Stacy. Neither one of them were picked on much - they both would always just say 'Yeah, my mom was hoping she'd have a girl' and then laugh. I'm sure at some point in their life it bothered them, but they moved past it. They both turned out to be great guys and no, they never changed their name. Be glad you have a name that's a little bit different - it will make you unforgettable! :)

I know a Cameron and a Casey - both of whom get a lot of grief for their names, especially, Cameron when people found out his mom calls him Cami (rhymes with Tammy) for short. I've known a few guys that had names that could have been either one, but they would have preferred a more definitive "masculine" name. So, all in all, it is important what we name our children, and it ought to be something that gives them aspirations, inspirations, and strength. My son's name is Daniel - all male, all solid, all faith. That is what I desired for him. Hang tight though - you'll reach an age, that you don't have to change your name, but you can choose to go by your initials or by a middle name, or choose a nickname that will make you feel more masculine about your name and identity. I'm sorry you're mom thinks this is all "cute" and doesn't see the greater emotional impact it is having on you.

Kelly, Casey, Robin, Pat, Francis, Kim, Eran (pronounced more like Erin). None of them got picked on that I know of. All of them are great, well-respected normal guys today. If you really hate your name, you can change it at 18. My mom did. Just be prepared for the old name to haunt you periodically.

If it bothers you that much. Give yourself a nickname. Once your 18, if you still hate it, go to court and have it changed... it's a simple process.

Yes, some are Pat, Dana, and Tony. Don't be embarrassed by your name, my name is ethnically Assyrian and am proud of it because it is who I am.
