A man can work so hard to root out corruption (like Teddy Roosevelt) but as soon as he is gone it all comes rushing back in. Why?

weight of money and blank mind

Why do people spend more energy looking for free or easy money instead of spending half the energy to get a job?

For some, it's the thrill of doing something wrong and getting away with it (ie - power corrupts, and Congress is full of it - it's getting as bad as the whole Catholic Priest scandal).

For others, it's a Holy Grail - a quest to get something (anything) for free or at the expense of others.

Unfortunately, for many, it is rewarding. Once they do it, and they don't get caught, they find it enjoyable and easy until it becomes a pattern and part of their normal behavior. After a while, they will even normalize it in their own minds and justify to themselves to the point where they no longer believe it is wrong.

Sucks, huh? It's OK, the world needs balance. If there was no evil, what would be the definition of good?

PS - dig deeper on Teddy, he wasn't exactly a saint (pay attention to his exploits as a "rough rider").

Fact from fiction, truth from diction. People would like to think that corruption and greed are inseparable twins. No so. They are usually invited to take the same trip but they can be found apart of each other. One can be greedy with out being corrupt. And one can be corrupt without being greedy. Corruption can happen on a small scale, the taking over of the bingo club, bowling team etc. Where there is no money involved. Or it can be a clique of rich people seeking to take control of the country club. Not because they need money or are trying to acquire it, they already have it. Maybe the want to fix the vote to get their people in so they can control things like membership. Many gamblers are greedy but they are not corrupt.

Corruption is like a Hydra you realized too late that for each head you whack off, 10 more grows back. As long as men want to have power. Corruption will be there. To have power is to be like a god, in some small fashion. To be like a shot caller and big baller. To be able to say "I made that happen"

If you look at the world its constantly negative - the rich riding the backs of the poor, no one cares aobut anyone, and we devour to survive. Most people - if had the chance to be happier by being "corrupt" im sure they would take it.
