I have a 97 ford taurus and the abs light keep comin on when I be drivin its hard to push the brake but the car stop as if i was pushing the brakes all the way to the floor i took it to the shop and the mechanic said it was fine this is not normal i know that not ture it only do that for like 1/4 for a mile and it will b fine

abs system if failing take it to another mechanic. it your life behind the wheel

If the brakes are only hard for a quarter of a mile, I would look at the vacuum supply, or check out the power booster.
Take the car back to the mechanic and have him keep it until he can replicate the condition and repair it. Remind him that this car drives on the SAME roads his does, and it is a safety issue.
As for the ABS light, it is unrelated. The light is either flashing ABS diagnostic codes, or is advising you that the ABS feature has been disabled. This not to say that your brakes are disabled, only the ABS feature. The brakes revert to standard power brakes in the event of the anti-lock feature failing.

ironhand is correct, the harding of the pedal has to do with the power booster or the vaccum hose, and the ABS light has to do with one of the wheels that the computer is not reading. which means if you have to come to a quick stop that your car may lock up due to ABS not working.

sounds like the check valve in the booster or 1 of the sensors in the wheels.
