If you use Yahoo! mail, the options are row of icons across the top of the compose pane. If you don't see those go to Options, General Preferences, Composing Emails and check Compose messages as color and graphics. Click Save and you're all set.

There may be an option to use rich text instead of plain text. If you select rich text you will have options available to change text color, weight of the text, underlines, italic etc.

your email client?

generaly, you would just go to "format" and "font" or "text" so check your email client for those words/commands
