No, a turtle is not a good pet because it belongs in its natural environment and wild animals suffer in captivity.

Turtles can be great pets, but aquatic turtles can be alot of work to take care of properly. You must keep thier water clean, clean, clean, which can be a challenge, and believe you me they can be STINKY little fellas when the water gets dirty. They also have to have good nutrition and lighting to keep thier shells healthy. My turtle gives me fits because he is so finicky about what he eats. He is a cool little guy but he's kinda expensive what with all the filters and stuff. I would not buy one on a whim for sure, but if you are dedicated to a creature that can live for decades and can be occasionally smelly you'll be ok! Good luck!

Okay yes they're great pet's but befor you buy them to let you know turtles need lots of care... They need 10 gallons per inch of shell and they need a filter a uvb light and het light 100 dollars for a full grown turtle 12 inches a 120 gallon tank so 300 dollars filter for that 150 dollars. Food 10 dollars a week. So please think about this first/

Turtles are great pets if you appreciate them, BUT they are NOT easy pets! It can cost about $100-150 to set up a decent habitat and starter food supply, you have to provide EVERYTHING they need environmentally, and you really cannot handle them much (it really stresses them!)
