Okay so there is this shy guy that I will talk to sometimes in band and he is like the shyest guy anyone has ever met. Once I was walking out of science class with my friends, I turned and I was smiling, and he was right there. So I was there smiling (on accident) and he just looked at me, without smiling, we just started at each other for some number of seconds. So what is the deal with that? Usually, if you know someone, you will at least say hi. And i know he doesn't hate me...he shows no indications of that. I have no clue about this.

Maybe he thinks you're too good for him and if you smiling at him, he thinks you're making fun of him. Or it's the other way around. He may not like you, maybe your looks or personality or your status in your school. Sometimes people see things and see who you hang around with and they might assume something about you.
If you really like him, you should strike up a conversation with him. Don't wait for him, because he's too shy. Besides, men love it when women make the first move.

OK guys suck at this stuff, especially the shy ones. My man is so shy that for the first like three weeks we were together we barely talked. It is a little awkward but you just gotta make him comfortable. Once you break that awkwardness between ya it could very likely turn out to be a great relationship. Maybe he wants to be cool but feels like you don't consider him a friend, friend or whatever.

He likes you, but he is afraid of rejection. I know because I was him when I was younger. If you can get him one on one and start a conversation, get him to feel comfortable with talking to you, he will open up. You might be surprised at how interesting he really is once you do that.

i was a shy kid in high school give it time he's nervous and unsure of himself . try talking to him about music if he's in the band, or he may feel all the people surrounding him might laugh at him. he's just trying maybe to avoid embarrassment.

unless you like him then just talk to him more.
and if you dont like him and you dont talk to him that often then just move on.
