I think the only danger with oil boilers is fire, not explosion, but I wanted to confirm that with someone who knows.

oil or gas is the fuel used to heat the boiler which is typically filled with water. So the boiler can explode. Now in the case of the fuel gas may explode if it leaks, while oil if it leaks most likely will not.
