you add up all of the grades, and divide by how many grades there are

Typically a 4 point scale is used. Each A is worth 4 points, B = 3, C=2, D=1, and F = 0. You take all your grades for the specific time frame and add them up according to this scale then divide by the number of grades you used. This will give you your GPA.

Ex: A report card for 4 quarters with 4 classes per quarter.

1st quarter 2nd 3rd 4th
English A(4) C(2) D(1) B(3)
Math B (3) D(1) B(3) A(4)
Am Gov F(0) B(3) C(2) D(1)
Computers B(3) F(0) A(4) C(2)

GPA 2.5 1.5 2.5 2.5

The average GPA for the year add all 16 up and divide. 4+2+1+3+3+1+3+4+0+3+2+1+3+0+4+2=36
36/16= 2.25
or
2.5+1.5+2.5+2.5=9
9/4= 2.25

I hope this helps.

To find your GPA, you assign point values to your grades (4 = A, 3 = B, 2 = C, 1 = D, 0 = F). Add up the point totals and divide that by the number of classes you have.

For example, you have six classes and you get three A's, two B's and 1 C.

3 x 4 = 12
2 x 3 = 6
1 x 2 = 2

Total points = 20

20 divided by 6 = 3.33. This means you have a B average.

In high school, GPA is computed this way:
Letter grade:
A = 4 points
B = 3 points
C = 2 points
D = 1 point
E or F = 0 points

Add up all your points you have received, then divide by the total number of grades.

In college, credits come into play. The point values are the same (A=4, B=3, C=2, D=1, E/F=0), but first you multiply each grade value times the number of credits before you sum them up (e.g., an A grade for a 2 credit course = 8 points (4*2)) After you sum up all the points, then divide by the total number of credits. That would be your GPA.

The guidance office can help you with that.

To figure it out by yourself, let an A grade = 4 points, B=3 points C= 2 points D=1 point and E or F=0 points. For each class multiply the point value of the grade received in that class times the number of credits that the class is worth. So, say, if I got a B in a 1-credit math class, that would be worth 3 x 1 = 3 points. Figure the points for each class, then add all the points for all your classes together. Divide by the total number of credits to get the GPA.

Some advanced courses may be weighted differently, so you may want to get guidance on how to figure those out.

Usually it's on your report card, or you can ask your school guidance counselor. Straight A's is generally a 4.0, but some schools weight grades and so on, so you should find out from your guidance counselor how your GPA is calculated.

there are 2 ways:

if your grades are listed by numbers (92) add them all then divide the total by the number added together

91
82
60
98 =331 331 divided by 4 = GPA of 82.3

or if alphabets are used:

A= 4.0
C= 2.0
A+=4.5
B= 3.0
D= 1.0 = 14.5 divided by 5 = 3.0 GPA = B

im not sure but i think you add them all up( 3 points for core class, then 2.0 for other class) then divide by how many class you have.... 4.0 is all A's, 3.8 all As and 1 B....
