I decided to take our old computer out of the attic today just to give me something to do. It had Windows 95 on it. I decided to try and reinstall it because I wanted to start it completely over so I could experiment with it. If only I knew what I was doing before I did it. For some reason, it will not start now. It says that a bunch of different files are missing and windows will not start. Is there a way that I can completely wipe out the computer so that I can reinstall windows 95 off of the disc? How about from the dos commands? Can I do anything important there? How can I get it to reinstall from the disc if I can't get it to start up at all? Mainly, I just want to start over or fix the problem. So what should I do? Any help would be appreciated.

Go to www.bootdisk.com and download a DOS boot floppy with CD-ROM support.

Boot the computer from the floppy and make sure you can see the CD. If so, type FORMAT C: and that will ERASE everything on the C: drive. Then you can run setup off the CD and install.

Do you have a Windows 95 boot disk? If so, stick it in your CD-ROM or floppy drive. You should be aloud to reinstall Windows after that.

If not, I'm not sure what you can do. You can't get very much help with Windows 95 nowadays. It is very outdated.

you can either call the computer company and ask to "factory refresh" it or I would just trash it and get a updated on, honestly. I had a windows 95 about 2 years ago, it it is verrrrrry slow!
I hope this works!

re-format the drive and start over. And if you have a Win98 disc, I'd suggest using it instead of 95. Win 95 is VERY buggy.
