Most other people seem to have covered the obviously distracting stuff. But another thing that you have probably come across is just getting outright bored with homework. Your mind wanders off in a totally different direction, even if there's nothing going on around you -- no distractions. How can you fix that sort of a problem? Well, you've gotta keep homework from being too boring. It's different for everyone, but it's worth a try:

** Keep rotating what subjects you're working on. Spend 15-30 minutes working on one subject, and then start on another one if you think you're bound to get bored pretty soon.

** A tip about what subject to choose next: pick a subject that's not very similar to the subject you were just working on. (For example, maybe the order of your homework would go English, Math, Foreign Language, Science... etc.)

** Work for as long as you can with this plan, but when you've hit the point where you just feel like you can't concentrate any more, take a short break (somewhere around: every 30 minutes to every 1 hour) that lasts about 5-10 minutes, just for a quick refresher. Maybe grab a drink or a snack to keep yourself energized.

Make sure you are studying in an area without any distractions. Clean up your workspace so that all you can see is your books. Turn off any tv's and makesure the lighting is good. IF you like music listen to an IPOD or something. Just basically feel comfortable but make sure you have everything in front of you because it will distract you if you have to go and find your materials. It could be good to maybe meditate a little just sit and try to clear your mind for a few minutes. I know I cant do any homework if my cell is on so probably turn that off too.

-If you've got the radio on, cuz you think it helps you study....think again : it doesn't, it only distracts!! So turn off that radio during studying. (same goes for TV and CD-players, of course)

-If you use the internet to help you study, that's okay, but do not OPEN your Outlook Express or whatever you use to recieve emails, and do not open any chatlist you may be on!!

-Before you start studying, decide WHEN you are allowed to take a break....say, after an hour.
-Have a little something to eat or drink during your break, which, BTW, should only last 15 minutes. NO longer.
-Repeat the process until you're finished with your study.

Good luck.

There are several things you can do. Make sure that your tv is off so its not a distraction. Start off with the hard stuff. If you find out your just bored to death trying to find out what x equals, switch to something else or read part of your book. If you read art of your book, set a time limit and stick to it. Another thing you can do is buy a cd or download on itunes some calming music like the sound of rain or waves or something.

Hopes this helps!

Turn the music on low or even off and sit up, not on your bed. At a table helps alot. Read and then re-read until you understand. Then repeat it in your head. It works

devote a part of your living space to JUST homework.

no radio, TV, laying down, looking out windows or telephones.

A table or desk, a light and a comfortable chair.

Then turn your brain on.

turn off everything in your room (phone, tv, and computer). if that doesn't do that, then turn off everything, but still listen to classical music. it's proven to help you concentrate.
