Actually the UPC Code was the beginning. A National ID Card would just be another step. An injected Chip is already available for Pets to be located. It is on the market now and can be injected just under the skin so the technology exists already.

No, that was what social security cards were, that is what they said back then.
Most nations that are larger than one of our states all have them. It would stop illegals from working or living in the US.
Since you could not rent or work without a national ID card legally.
Also it would allow for positive ID, Do you konw daily how many dangerous wanted people are let go because they were not positive ID'ed.
And if I can pay my bills, buy gas the the station, buy my grocrey, have all my medical records available in an emergany by having a chip in my hand or arm, I think it sounds great, no more bill fold to lose, credit cards to be stolen.

Not even close. This country is strongly against that for various reasons, most importantly the Christian church has decided it could be "the mark of the beast" So no friggin way. There are way too many people who would protest chips in our bodies. It would require a disinformation campaign much larger than the one used to bring about prohibition of marijuana. (the one that said weed caused VIOLENCE, if you know anything about weed you know that's not possible.)
