Hello,

I am new to this bulletin thing. So hello to all!
I am 31 weeks pregnant and in need of some advice. Yesterday i went to my prenatal appt. where they decided to do a follow up pap smear, which they told me they wanted to do later in my pregnancy when i was only 3 months pregnant. This was because they got abnormal results when i was 3 months, but they did a colposcopy at about 3 months after those results and said things looked ok.

Any ways. they did the pap yesterday, and afterwords i was up and about all day. Literally i did not relax for the day from 8 am to 11 pm, so then when i layed down i started to experince what felt like cramps all through my belly. at times my belly tightened so much i couldnt breath. I need to know should i worry? Has anyone else experinced this? could the pap smear cause me to go into early labor? please give any advice. this is my 1st pregnancy. SO i am confused!!!

you are probably having braxton hicks contractions. the pap will not cause real premature labor, but messing wiht the cervix can make the uterus irritated, and make the B-H contractions more intense. Just keep an eye on it.

Braxton hicks get stronger as your pregnancy progresses and yes, you can have spotting and cramping after a pap smear, absolutely.

When you're in labour you will laugh hysterically that you thought these pains might be labour, honestly.

Your body is getting ready, things are tightening, baby is dropping and there is a lot less room in there now so you feel absolutely everything. Sometimes you will experience pain dependent upon baby's position, try getting on all fours, relax your tummy (let it drop down) and sway back and forth and side to side. This is a great exercise to get baby off the pressure points and also to help him/her move down the canal, turn if necessary and get ready for birth.

Don't worry!

The pap probably brought on some braxton hicks. When you are in actual labor you won't have to ask whether the contractions are real or not. The contractions will become very regular and more intense with time. Don't worry too much, odds are you'll have plenty of time to get to the hospital once you're sure you're in labor.

Congratulations and Good Luck

You could be experiencing braxton hicks because this happened to me and I started to have those cramps around the same time as you. The pain did go away, I am 33 weeks now and I have not got a contractions yet.. Just light stomach pains...

lol braxton hicks can begin as early as five and a part months. Its simply your frame getting ready its self for supply. The pains you're feeling are usual, but when it will get too bothersome cross to the er or see your document, congrats incidentally!

you have over done it ,you should have been told to rest after the pap smear.I have had this happen and it stopped after a couple of hours ,If the cramps get progressively stronger and closer together then go to the hospital ,or if you have blood or fluid .but if it starts to calm down then you will be fine ,its a sign that you need to take better care of your self, but it is normal .so don't panic

Drink 2 large glasses of water lay on your left side and time the cramps if they are constant you need to go to the hospital.....don't forget to empty your bladder

you're probably having b/h, but...should your contactions average around 5 minutes apart, should they get stronger...do not hesitate to go to the er. i don't want to scare you but if you are in premature labor, they can stop it if you get there in time. just keep track of the contractions, and if they get closer and stronger consistantly go to the er. they get people who arent' really in labor all the time. plus it'll make a great story to tell all your friends.

It is always better to be safe than sorry, head for the emergency room just to be sure especially if your still cramping.
