I ask because I'm very interested in writing for a magazine in one of those areas. I've got a degree in technical writing, but I'm not sure what comics/gaming magazines might look for in an applicant--I' What sort of experience should I have? What should my portfolio contain? I'm going to be real crazy here and assume that they would want articles about games or comics, but is there something else? I figured I'd just throw this question out there and see if anyone had any helpful advice. Thanks!

well casey, your avatar looks great!
you're hot.
anyway, publications are always looking for freelance writers for articles. if u have a portfolio of written articles already, feel free to email it or send it to them. and submit an article specifically for that magazine. u'd of course need some kind of journalism or writing background. and im assuming u mean magazines like starlog, computer gaming world and so on,

gimme 10 points? please please?

I got a job writing a MMORPG by chance. What they look for first of all is if you're either a hardcore or a casual gamer. Next they ask your familiarity with the systems that are out there. Technical writing isn't a requirement unless you're doing a review or test, but it helps to know the terminology that's used in gaming. It wouldn't hurt in your position to contact the publications and speak to someone in HR. Good luck, I hope it works out for you.
