I didn't put my son in a kiddie pool until he was able to sit up on his own, and even then I sat in the pool with him.

My son is now 7 mths old and loves the pool however, when an infant is under 6mths old there skin is very porous. It will absorb everything that is why you can't use sunscreen, or bug repellent because they absorb too much of the harmful ingredients. It is the same with the chlorine in the pool. According to my doctor and everything I have read, it is best to wait until the baby is at least 6 months old, however if you do put them in a pool at a younger age, keep the time to a minimum and give them a bath immediately after to wash away any harmful chemicals. Enjoy your baby.

He should be fine, I think I took my son in the pool at about 6 weeks old. Just keep a shirt on him and a hat so he doesn't get burnt. I don't think my son really cared for it, but I tell yeah, it pooped him out the 15 min we were in the pool. The pool is about a block away, probably not even, he was asleep by the time I walked in my front door. I would also give him a bath afterwards to wash off the chlorine and what not.

A four week old baby should not be in a pool. For one, the chlorine is too harsh for a newborn's skin and eyes. Secondly, the amount of germs the baby could be exposed to is not worth the risk. Keep in mind, their immune system is much weaker then an older childs, and a new baby has yet to receive the more important immunizations. Plus, the belly button may not be completely healed, although it may appear to be to the naked eye. I know it sounds appealing to swim with your baby, but it's just too early, your better off to leave that until next summer.

I think the sooner you get them used to the water the better. As long as you are holding them and they are sumerged only because I'm not sure on the level of chlorine in your pool, it's fine. I wouldn't try sticking them in any baby floating devices since the baby can't hold his head up or anything it's likely that he could fall over into the water. So if you are holding him the whole time. Maybe just sit on the steps with him and dip his feet into the water. Or lay him on his back in your arms and let him just kick around. There should be no harm in it as long as you are careful and don't like I said put him in any of the baby floatation things or leave him unattended. I'm sure you know that already but just don't want to give the wrong advice lol.

I agree with the person who said not to put them in a public pool. A Private pool would be good or a kiddy pool. not a public pool. For one so many germs floating around and for two you don't know the chlorine levels, if it's your pool you know.

You can take a baby in the pool whenever you want to. My babies were practically born in the pool. I have friends that took their baby to the beach when she was days old and my niece has been in the pool since she was about a week old. Just remember sunscreen and a fresh diaper change before you go in.

I would not put that baby in a public pool. His immune system is not completely built if I remember correctly..

If anything I'd buy a small baby pool and let him sit in your lap while you are in there with him. But I honestly don't see any joy he could get from being in a pool at that age.

Babies younger than 6 months should not wear sunscreen but if your pool is in a shaded area it's fine. Just remember that high chlorine levels are no good for infants

For newborns younger than 2 months we really worry about immunity -- how vulnerable babies are to illness. Pools can easily be contaminated with bacteria that cause diarrhea, which can be very dangerous for a young infant.
And your baby won't be able to regulate his body temperature until he's around 6 to 12 months old, you need to make sure the water's warm enough for him. "If the water feels chilly to you, it will be really cold for your baby,so your pool would have to be like 84 - 86 degrees...

I would think that it's fine, just use a lot of sunscreen, and keep a t-shirt and hat on him. Don't let him get it in his mouth (not that I think you'd let him get that far down in the water at 1 month), and don't over do it. Even though it's hot, he still might get cold when he gets wet.

My son went in the pool first at 5 months, but he was born in February. He absolutely loved it!
