How do I send a folder via either messenger or email and why does my messenger not accept or send photos?

make the folder a .zip, Right click and hit zip and email

I've never tried to send a folder through messenger, but I'd recommend you zip the folder
(right click on the folder, "send to", "compressed (zipped) folder")
then send that to your friend.

As for why it's not letting you send / recieve photos - it could be that your friend has a different version and they don't work together well. It could be a setting, or it could be that both you and your friend are trying to send folders which may not be allowed.
