maybe you mean the maximum size. I think Yahoo allows at least 1Mb, but I've seen somewhere (it may be Yahoo) that allows up to 5Mb. When you try to attach most programs will tell you if you are over and state the limit, that's usually how I find out, try it.

It depends on what the attatchment is:

Pictures: up to 500Kb (usually about 50 KB, though)
Programs: not suggested. Don't accept them! Usually contain viruses.
Text files: up to 50 KB or so.

So the average would be around 50 Kb. Each file. But up to 1 Mb isn't out of the ordinary - people don't know how to optimize their pictures / text files.

Always, always, always(!) scan the files for viruses.

Depending on the ISP, some emails won't get through if your attachment is over a meg.

You can use yousendit.com to pass on files.
