I'm into shoujo and yaoi/BL myself. I watch a lot of other genres but my opinion is still biased. What are YOU into? It's not really a recommendation unless I can recommend something you like, is it? Personally, I like KareKano, Naruto, Fruits Basket, Absolute Boyfriend, and DNAngel from the list (though the Kenshin OVA with the different animation was really good-- I cried a little-- didn't get into the manga though). My favorites are Ouran High School Host Club, Hana Yori Dango, Kodocha, anything by Matsuri Hino, X(/1999), Hot Gimmick, Tramps Like Us (Kimi wa Petto in Japan), Wallflower... the list is very long.
But really, the best thing you can do is go to a store with tons of manga (like Border's) and going through the books yourself. Inspect the art, read the story synopses, develop your own taste. Never rely on popular opinion for this stuff. I guarantee you, that even if 100 people like a series, not a one of them will wholly agree on just why they like it.

The ROD manga is nothing like the anime and is being written *after* the anime.
I only rated ones I knew something about:)
Other good manga:
Deathnote, Hellsing and Blood Sucker. These are all more onto the horror side. That's mostly what I read, besides yaoi.
