Hey! Good choise for the game!!! The Sims 2 rules!
There must be an option on the sims cd to install it, put a cd again, or maybe you already have that program, so you could just do the crack thing (go to the E device, open The Sims and find crack folder and copy Sims icon that's inside that folder and then paste it to C disk/program files/Maxis/The Sims 2). Good Luck! If you don't success in it, send me an e-mail and I'll help you. We'll figure something out.

It could be a faulty system, fautly installation. Or maybe, your computer has less memory, than the game requires. I once installed a game on my computer, that it was like a cow boy movie. I was able to play it on regular basis, for awhile. then it started to have problems. Then it stopped working, altogether and the system said, it didn't have enough memory, for the game.

Well then, you need to install DirectX 9.0c
It won't be difficult as the setup wizard will guide you through all of the steps.

Do you have direct x 9 already? If so it probably won't load.
See if the game is loaded under you start menu in programs. It will be listed under the maker of the game.
I had a similar situation with call of cthulhu.
