My mother in law was the meanest woman I'd ever met. When my little girl was 4 years old she was watching tv and sucking her thumb wearing a little summer dress and the strap slipped off her little shoulder, my mother in law asked her if she was going to be a hooker when she grew up. Then there was another time when I had gone through treatment for alcohol abuse, she said oh good now for daughter in laws I have a hippie a squwa and an alcoholic....She died 8 years ago and I still can't stand her. I have many more stories but you don't want to be reading my stuff all night. You stand your ground....

Sometimes it's a good sign---it means you love your spouse all the more, because he/she is so "different" than their relatives.
But you can't really choose your relatives, so it might be a good long-term investment not to weaken yourself by showing your emotions to them, or arguing, or fighting with them. You can be polite with some effort, for your spouse's sake, no matter who they are.
But this doesn't mean you can't keep your boundaries with them---you have rights, too. You don't have to lend them money, lend them your car, find them jobs, or house them. When you assert your boundaries, you don't have to argue about it. They will treat you exactly as you permit them to treat you.

well if you mean stories about in-laws and what they have done?
i have a bf and we're engaged.
his mom would call me and tell me horrible things about him to make me break up.
when that failed she called my mom and lied on me, thank god my mom didn't believe her.
she also came into my house and tried to fight her own son.
crazy lady huh?
