I have one male bunny, who's a little under a year. I'm thinking of getting another bunny so he has someone to run around the house with. I don't want a female because I don't want them creating tons of baby bunnies, but he needs a friend! I'm not going to put them in the same cage or anything, but I wanted to know if male bunnies fight alot with one another. Any advice?

I don't want to put the bunnies in the same cage if they might fight. I really don't want to come home one day and one of them is seriously injured or dead. I figured they could run around the house together, then go back to the privacy of their own cages when they're done. I would put them so they could still see each other, though.

I think the Bunny is a mini-Rex. The shop I got him from said he was a dwarf, but he's obviously not that so I'm not too sure.

I'm so nervous about having the bunnies neutered! At the vet clinic I worked at, we lost a lot of bunnies because they would rather die than go through the stress of surgery.

Please, please don't listen to some of the advice the previous people are giving you.

Two male rabbits WILL fight. There is no 'may' about it. It does't matter if they've never been around a female rabbit or not. Two sexually mature (ie: older than 3 months of age---testosterone-ridden) male rabbits will fight!

Male rabbits are VERY territorial. They are social only to a certain extent---not a whole lot of male rabbits occupy a warren--it is composed mostly of females, as rabbits are polygamous. And even those tolerated by the dominant male are frequently subjected to the dominant males' displays of aggression (dominance) to ensure breeding rights.

The point is both males will seek to establish dominance. Rabbits occupy -acres- of land in which other males are tolerated because each has their own space---your home will not provide them with enough space for them to feel comfortable with each others' presence.

Your best bet is to get your current male rabbit neutered and then adopt a spayed female to bond with him. Even neutered males generally don't tolerate each others' presence...and since rabbits sometimes do form monogamous pairings, a neutered male/spayed female is the best combo (there's very little aggression/bickering as opposed to same-sex pairings).

Find a rabbit-savvy vet in your area. Neutering is much safer than spaying (which is why I recommend adopting a female who is already spayed). It is more costly than neutering a cat or dog, but the risks should be minimal if you choose the right vet.

Hope that helps.

Yes they will fight, your un-neutered male rabbit will fight with that new rabbit... Rabbits are extremely territorial. So both would have to be neutered. You can not just get a new rabbit and put him in the cage with your older rabbit.. Sadly, these hasty introductions often result in serious harm or injury from biting, chasing, or other forms of attack. Rabbits are extremely territorial. In wild rabbits, territorial behavior includes depositing marking pellets at the boundaries of the territory, chinning, urinating, and aggressive behavior such as digging, circling, and fighting. Wild males tend to defend larger territories while females concentrate on their nests. In our neutered domestic companions, hormonal causes may be absent, but territorial behavior still exists. Thus, when introducing new rabbits, territory must be considered and used to your advantage. If you do not neuter your rabbit he can not have a friend sorry.....

If neither has been with a doe (female rabbit) then they should be fine.
You could get a female and have her desexed. Or him. Or both.
Why wont you put them in the same cage? They will like to be together playing and sleeping

The chances are they will they are very taritorial. It may depend on wether, or not there is a female, if they are both in the same cage exct. If they run around in the house then maybe not though.

yes they will fight i raise rabbits to seel and this is true im not being stupid but one of the male rabbits will chew the other ones balls off so in nature they keep them tucked in if another rabbit is around. but if they have been raised since birth together it would not be a problem

but if u want to clean up a bloody mess and have a dead rabbit then go ahead!! good luck with that!!

They MAY fight, but rabbits are very sociable creatures, and LOVE company, particularly with other rabbits. They get very lonely by themselves. You can always have your rabbits de-sexed - both male and female, and that should alleviate any issues.
