The state of Canada...
As far as being safe from natural disasters, the Northwest is your best bet. No huge snowstorms, no hurricanes, no tornadoes (on the rare occasion we do, they are F0 or below), no massive earthquakes, no sweltering heat, no freezing temperatures.
Our only danger is that we are near several dormant volcanoes, but those aren't likely to give us too much trouble.
The Northwest also seems to be MEGA-city free (Seattle & Portland are large, but don't rank real high), so crime isn't horrible here; college towns here in the Northwest are probably a best bet.

Depends on what you want to be safe from (crime, natural disasters).
Generally cities are less safe than rural areas but you should look at the crime statistics to find out which area is safest.
As far as national disasters, an inland town on the east coast (like in Virginia or South Carolina) is probably your best bet. That way your risk of Hurricanes is low, Earthquake risk is low, tornado danger is low, and fire risk is low (and less snow/flooding than further north).
Safety is a relative thing. There is no 'safest' place, you just have to compare one location to another and see if it safer.

I can't believe the negative people above me I live out side Detroit and I feel safe. My 3 year old can play in our back yard and I don't have to worry about much only if he hurts himself there is crime in the area once in a while but its usually teens that in my opinion are bored and have parents that don't care, how I know this I also have a 17 years old with some class mates that have gotten in trouble, where you live is as safe as you make it!!!

Safe from what? As far as overall safety, about anywhere in the U.S. would be considered very safe by international standards. Are you afraid of crime, terrorists, natural disasters? On the coasts, you can get tidal waves or hurricanes, in some areas you risk earthquakes, other areas you can be killed by avalanches and snowstorms, or swept away by floodwaters or blown away by tornados. Some inner city areas have very high crime rates,--just depends on what you are most afraid of and what risks you are willing to endure. Generally, all of the risks are slight so don't worry, be happy.

Check the crime statistics for West Virginia. Then select a very small isolated town or country farm away from the larger towns. You can leave the doors unlocked at all times and nothing will happen. You can't find a safer place to live.

I think that a combination of the above answers is correct but it does depend on what you are asking about. Do you mean safe from terrorism or safe from crime? Or perhaps you mean a safe place to raise kids, has low unemployment and a community which supports you. I suggest Wysteria Lane.

City wise, I would say Reno NV. The Branson MO. area is peaceful, friendly, clean, pretty. Depending on your age...a retirement community might be a good bet or living in the general location of a retirement community should prove to be peaceful.

Just about any small southern town. We all own and enjoy firearms so this makes it really tough on criminals. They don't know who or which house will be their last.

if your talking about potential terrorist threats, you can rest assured living anywhere except new york and other major, MAJOR cities, miami, boston, chicago, etc.
if you just mean plain ole crime then anywhere that is outside a city far enough ( it doesn't have to be to far, like 50 miles)
