Nota write but married to one- Try Author's Den it is a web site online where writer's share work and help other's with projects. You can gain alot from signing up and talking to people there.
The basic's for non fiction or memoirs is follow a standard outline procedure. Write out your life starting with your parents and your birth then keep going up to today. Be as detailed (small paragraphs) or as minimal as you want just get everything down so you can view it in order.
You should have a basic idea of the style you want to use- storytelling, narrative based oration, or whatever you are most comfortable for this project. If you are not sure which style you want read a few pages or ecerpts from other books in this genre and ask on author's den what style is used in XYZ book from them and they can tell you easily enough.
Then simply decide what you want to keep in your book from the outline, how it will flow- linear, free form or varied. Then just start telling your story. Other author's on the site will give advice or read and comment on passages if you feel comfortable posting them online or once you make a freind or two use email to keep things private. good luck.

Rather than read a book on how to write, read a real book that you admire. Pick a biography or an autobiography that is truly outstanding, and read it as a writer, meaning that you should decide which elements are truly excellent and which are blah. Pay careful attention to how the writer deals with passage of time and life-changing versus mundane events.

If you have someone in mind to write about, then you must do all the research you can to learn about the subject. Start with the earliest recollections of that individual and make them short stories. As you add to the biography, you can then place chapter headings to the stories as they progress from one event to the next.
Consider getting the handbook, "The Elements of Style," written by Strunk and White. It is an invaluable tool to basic grammar and tips to use and avoid in writing. The cost is around $7.00 and it will be worth every cent to you.
One of the tips in the handbook is to avoid saying, "Thanking you in advance." This sounds as if the writer meant, "It will not be worth my while to write to you again." In making your request, write "Will you please," or "I shall be obliged." Then, later, if you feel moved to do so, or if the circumstances call for it, write a letter of acknowledgment. (p59, The Elements of Style).
Good luck with your venture.

i don't have the time to place in writing each and all the time on condition that i'm no longer focusing on it for a profession. it truly is a activity for me (yet that would not recommend that i'm extra effective or worse than every person else). i don't have a series time--in basic terms while the schedule enables. many times, I write at evening after the family has long previous to mattress and the home is quiet. i do no longer write for a series term--in basic terms as long as i'd desire to get the assumption out or until eventually my physique tells me to hit the sack because of the fact i can't think of right this moment. I save notes to myself on a blog on line, so as that i can get admission to from the two of my desktops at homestead. As for a place to place in writing--anyplace the pc is. i locate that as long as i'm focusing on what i'm writing, the area would not rely as plenty. For me, the great concern is concentration.
