I took the PSAT as a sophomore (last year) and got a 180, which I believed to be good. I recently heard this was actually a bad score, so I'm now taking preliminary tests to get ready for the PSAT and SAT. My most recent practice PSAT score was 201; is this bad or good?
I want to take the PSAT on the 18th to see if I can qualify for the National Merit Scholarships, and I'm working hard. Plus, I'm taking the SAT in May, and I'd like to be prepared.

As I understand it, the PSAT has three sections. Two English sections are comprised of comprehension and analysis, and then there is a math section. Therefore, your score seems plausible. I believe that your scores are fine, but you might want to try raising them before you take the PSAT again. The National Merit scholarships are often awarded to people who get perfect scores, and that is no easy task. Study your vocabulary, sentence structure, algebra, trigonometry, etc. You should be fine, and if you work as hard as you have done so far, your score could be raised another 39 points.

The PSAT now has three sections, like the SAT - maximum score is 240. The PSAT has a score maximum that is 1/10 the maximum of the SAT score (max 2400).

To qualify for national merit honors, you'll want to score at least a 200; and 210 is better (obviously).

A 180 on the PSAT is not bad, as it converts to about an 1800 on the SAT. That being said, it could never hurt to score higher, if only for your own peace of mind.

One thing to remember, though, is that colleges don't give a flying hill of beans about your PSAT score. The PSAT is really only suited for practice for the SAT and for qualifying for national merit honors.

Yep the PSAT is made to coach you for the SAT, an analogous regulations and outcomes prepare the only difference is once you get your score back the numbers are a component of 10. working example a 620 on the SATs could be marks as a sixty two on the PSATs. Tack a 0 on the top to choose what your actual score could be.

I don't think 180 is a bad score ..its actually a 1800 on the regular sat..... However, the average score for students getting into an ivy league school is between 2250....and the sat isn't everything..last year harvard rejected 50% of applicants with a perfect sat score and took some applicants with scores as low as 1800...so don't worry

According to their web site, the scores on the PSAT range from 20 to 80. According to the same wite, there are two sections -- Math and Verbal. Therefore the maximum score is 160.

Are you sure it was the PSAT that you took?
