We are purchasing a home with no first floor bathroom. The only space available is the Kitchen pantry. (The other rooms have beautiful beams on the ceiling & or a fireplace or baywindow or columns & we dont want to take away from the integrity of the historic home. Under the stairs is not an option (it turns and becomes the basement stairs.) So, the kitchen pantry is SMALL..but thats it. The house is kindof small..craftsman bungalow 1 1/2 story. What is the MINIMUM amount of space needed for a small powder room? (Toilet & tiny sink & pocket door.) Width/length? And any other tips (ie plumbing stack advice?)

According to the Uniform Building Code the toilet compartment must be 36" wide and have 24" in front of the toilet bowl. This would make your half bath 36" wide by about 5'-8" long with a pocket door on the side.

the minimum is approx 54"x54". your local code may dictate something different. they are now making some shallow vanities that are great for smaller baths. pocket doors are neat and solve many problems, but require special wall construction and can jump track within the wall and become a headache.

inside dimension: 30" wide x 60", don't swing the door into the half bath for safety reasons (if someone passes out inside and fall against the door, the emt's will have a hell of a time getting them out.

a toilet is 24" wide....pedestal sinks come 24" wide but that is pushing it and why build something that is not comfortable to use and might lower the value of ur house.......we make ours no less than 5' x 5'......

5'0" X 5'4" - CONTAINS TOILET & PEDISTAL LAV - YOU NEED 30" FOR TOILET, & ABOUT THE SAME FOR A HUMAN TO STAND IN FRONT OF A SINK & USE IT COMFORTABLY.

MOST BATHS ARE 5'0" WIDE - LENGTH OF STD. BATH TUB.
