Lifestyle is a choice. Way of life is the way things are -- whether you like it or not!

A "way of life" is generally something imposed on a person by his/her circumstances. A " lifestyle" is generally the choice certain people, who can afford it, make about their manner of living. You can be poor and lonely and make that "your lifestyle" if you chose to live it and are not forced into it by your situation.
