check the almanac, figure the time from sunrise to sunset, calculate the hours and multiple it with the days of the year. except if you are located in alaska where there are six months of daylight and six months of night so you can figure it much quicker by multiplying 24 hours against the days for 6 months total...

The hours of daylight varies depending on the position on the earth.

That would depend on where you live on the planet. Latitude makes a difference. Like Alaska and Florida have differing daylight hours.

Aaron is right... 365.25 x 12 is correct for global consideration. As the Earth precesses around the sun, the average amount (time) of light hitting any part of the planet is average 12 hours a day. Think about it, too logical.

~365x12

Over the year, there are approximately equal amount of daylight and darkness.

There are slight variations: the sun is half a degree wide, so there is a bit more time when the sun is in the sky, at least in part, than not.

The calendar year is not perfectly timed to the solar year.

The atmosphere refracts light from over the horizon.

To count off day and night together of the calender,

Normal year of 365 days:

12hours*365days= 4380hours

(I day has 12 hours day and 12 hours night)

leap year:

12hours*366days= 4392hours

This calculations are counted for those who live through day and night of a year calendar.

depends on where you are in the world and also depends on how much sunlight you recieve each day, it will vary from day to day because on the day that summer officially begins you wil have the most amount of sunshine during the day. vice versa for winter
