It looks like a piroette (sp?) but is spinning at the same time. It's a famous move that apparently is extremely difficult and rarely performed perfectlly. I believe the last time I saw it was in Swan Lake (is it Odile or Odette?). Can any of you ballet buffs or dancers answer my question.......I adore the ballet!

They are called "fouettes en tournant".......first danced by Pierina Legnani in 1893......she did 32 of them.....a never-before performed fete. It's pirourette......The Ballet.......a beautiful thing!

A Fouetté en tournant?
Often called the "famous 32 fouettés" seen in Swan Lake! It works the leg, not the torso, in a whipping movement such like a pirouette...it is extremely difficult and to show of the brilliance of the ballerina.

Great movie by the way.

It takes a lot of perseverence to learn that move and as a ballet dancer, I commend her for performing that move. Great movie, also.

OH MY GOSH LOVE THAT MOVIE!!!!! youve already gotten your correct answer (fouette) but en tournament (sp?) part i think is where Jody did a very quick double spin. it was like where the music said "dance (she turns once), dance (she turns once), dance (then she turns twice really fast into a piroutette." dont take my word for it b/c i havent studied that i awhile but im pretty sure thats what it was.
