Whats up with Greenday?

Question

I love Greenday they're very rad and rock my world, but way back when they concentrated on good catchy music-no anti-america, politics, and trying to look punk, I think people don't really like Greenday anymore because they are trying to be a punk band and against everything, instead of making good music. I love American Idiot, but after listening to Dookie, International Superhits, Nimrod, amd some other albums there is a big musical Genre' change and change of looks. Don't get me wrong I love their new look, and their music is ok, but why did they do it? To blend in? Everyone loved their Alternative Rock, but now it's hardcore Punk. I love hardcore punk, but Greenday+Punk=? I mean whats up with Billie, Mike, and Tre? But then everyone says they suck, why did they have amazing sellouts of American Idiot? I love them they're my musical life pretty much, just why the change? Everyone misses the younger spunky Greenday with good play of words. So who agrees?

1. Don't talk to me about whether I know Greenday or not sweetheart I've seem them lives since the 80's. 2. They are kinda punk look at them 3. Amercan Idiot had great success but why?! 4. They are a great band thats why they are around 5. Yes my brother is always playin Greenday's music, he's a great guitarist (my bro) and 6. Stop hatin, I'm the only one being supporitive of them. 7. I met Billie way back when he's a sweetheart, AND he wouldn't appreciate people saying crap abou this hard work and dedication 8. Alternative is a good word to describe them so AMEN on that 9. Chill plenty of peolpl love them they have great lyrics, and they are spunky, PERFECT, so if you wanna say crap about peoples success just because they are more successful, have a better life, then cry to your momma because we don't wanna hear it got it?

Thankyou Ericistheman777 I agree they aren't punk, and yes MTV does that all the frickin time, and then people pollute awesome bands like Greenday! Well thank for not trashtalking them, and yes old greenday rocks my socks.

there new music is awful. its the popiest music they've come out with to date. they were one of my favorite bands. then they came out with gay american idiot and america fell in love with them. but i lost my love for them before then anyway. in 96 they broke a huge punk rule when they signed with a major label company. they were kicked out of their home town an were banned from every playing there again. and american idiot is not punk!!! they sold all those records cause mtv got a hold of their new album and brainwashed everyone into loving them. mtv always does that to good bands. its gonna happen with my favorite band the red hot chili peppers. guarenteed. so to answer your quesion lol. i agree that old greenday is much better than new greenday

First of all, Green Day is not punk. Secondly, their songs do not require alot of talent, I can teach a beginning guitar player to play every Green Day song by showing what a power chord is. Third, they sold out, but with radio music generally going downhill fast, I guess they're one of the few alternative bands still around.

They're not really anti-america, just anti-bush and anti-war. They changed b/c before the American Idiot CD, Bush was out of office, and the war in Iraq hadn't started. It's just their way of protesting. Almost all bands have shown their support or dislike throught their music.

Leo, it appears, hasn't heard their historical stuff. You recognise, if ur gonna insult a band, a minimum of recognise their track! But I agree, their new stuff is business rock (and I HATE IT!). The great GD track ever is quite often "Wake Me Up When September Ends", however it is definitly NOT my fave. My fave is "Walking Contradiction"
