Recently went and printed off 25 resume's, expecting to have a bit of difficult getting a job, however, he first place I visited offered me a position, which I took on my mum's advice (just a cafe job- clearing tables, washing dishes, taking orders, putting together cakes and drinks, etc.).

Here's the thing- the lady who hired me is really rude, as well as a lot of the other staff there. My boss told me that I would be put down on a roster, but has instead been just calling me either the night before, or on the same day that she wants me to work. This makes things really difficult for me, since I've recently been very sick and have a lot of specialist appointments which clash with this- last time I worked, she didn't even pay me and said "I'll pay you next time you come in"-- she didn't call me in for THREE WEEKS and even then, tried to pretend as though she had already paid me for last time. She tried to weasel out of getting my bank details too.

I was thinking of giving it a few more weeks and seeing if she puts me down on the roster AND if she pays me for the time that I have worked so far... this is my first experience with a job and it seems pretty dodgy... is cafe work always this cruddy? I've heard a few people say that it's "the best you can expect" from the food industry.

Should I stay, or find somewhere else??

When finding and starting a job, the employer should want you as much as you want the job.

Would you stand this sort of treatment from anyone in your life? A friend, parent, sibling? I would hope not.

Threaten her with a complain/lawsuit to the Labor Board, or Better Business Bureau. Employers are REQUIRED to pay you. There is no slavery here anymore.

Take your losses and quit. Explain to her politely and professionally that you do not deserve to be treated like an animal. I understand the food industry works on a day to day basis, but calling the night before or the day they want you to work is simply unrealistic.

Well the best thing you can do is to report them to the Labor and explained how they treated you and mentioned that they have not paid you for the work you have worked for them, the lLabor takes care of this case. Also you can file a lawsuit against them, discrimination. Tile VII of the Civil Rights can protect you or just quit. You can find better job, that place is not a right place for you. You deserve to be respected,

Yes, I'd quit and continue to look for another job. Report your old boss after you quit (allow 1 pay cycle). I don't know who you report them to though...maybe your state Government offices (look in the blue pages and just start calling and asking questions. You'll have to tell your story about 20 times. So, you'd want to make it short and to the point). OR>..great idea, get on here and ask who you should call if your old boss won't pay you what you are owed.

If she doesn't pay you, there is no point in working. If you spend gas money to get to work, and she doesn't pay you, you are going in the hole financially. Also, it sounds as if you have health problems. A stressful work environment such as this one will only exascerbate sickness. I would put out more resumes and get another job before quitting, but get out as quick as you can. Best of Luck.

Start for another job. You don't want to work for someone like that. And you should file a complaint w/ the Labor Relations Board in your state. Do you punch in and out when you work?

That's not the best the food industry has to offer, there are lots of jobs out there that are far more lenient towards their employees, nobody should have to put up with your current boss.

I personally could not take all that junk! Maybe you need to look at something where you set your own hours and your own pace, since you are dealing with some medical issues. Check this out it's worth a look see. Go to www.shahansdestinations.com , AND THE BEST OF LUCK TO YOU AND YOUR FUTURE!!!

Not a good place to work, as it's a very abusive atmosphere.

I'd be looking elsewhere and only stay if you really need the dough, or until you find something else.

I would say that you absolutely need to quit and find a better place to work. They should not be treating you like this, and they should be paying you on a regular basis. If I were you and they didn't pay me, I would have told them to take this job and shove it, and then told them to pay me, or hear from my lawyer.

you already know what to do, your better than this, find someone who will appreciate you, 2 weeks notice of your intent to leave is not needed here, since you never had a schedule, best of luck in other venues!
