My son that is 13 months old has severe reflux, laryngomalacia, tracheomalacia. He is on prevacid and using ellecare formula (allergic to milk and soy) we also thicken the formula still, and he does eat table food.

How long does it take for the babies to outgrow this? We are going to be on formula until at least 2 years old, and he is not sleeping through the night yet.

I don't want cut and pasted answers or medication advice (my son is already on the maxed out dose of prevacid and cannot take reglan he had a seizure when we tried it). We are also on a formula that cost 500-600 dollars monthly.

we have tried neutramagin his allergies are so severe it would put him back in the hospital. zantac is awlful for reflux. it contains a pepermint flavor in it that aggrovates the reflux (we tryed the zantac first, went to axid, pepsid and now prevacid)

Hmmm.......... I have a friend whose little girl had this problem. She started when she was only 2 days old. She couldn't eat formula and still can't drink milk. They found out hers was an extremely rare disease called triple X syndrome. Have the doctors checked into any types of diseases. Her little girl just turned 5. She still can't drink milk and is developmentally delayed (this is due to the Triple X). The doctors said she may never outgrow the milk allergy. I think she quit her formula a little while before her 2nd birthday. I can check with her if you would like and let you know the exact details. Just e-mail me and let me know if you would like for me to. Its not a problem. Good Luck. Poor baby.

My son had reflux from day one. Got diagnosed at 2 weeks after continues trips to the Doctor. His weight has always been fine ( 10 lbs. 7 oz.at birth ). He is now almost 2 and still has it. We after to watch what he eats and he needs is meds. Tried all but zantac works the best. We have it flavored with grape and the peppermint should not affect the reflux do to it being a small dose. Our GI doc said by 18 months they should out grow. I have breastfed since birth still do. He just recently started to eat table food. He was seeing a speech therapist to help with feedings. He still only eats small meals about 2 a day with a few snacks. My son does not sleep through the night either. He has always slept with me due to the vomiting in his sleep. but like I said as long as we watch his food intake small meals and he has his meds. we have very little problems. Mostly just signs of some heartburn.I give him liquid Maalox/ mylanta works good. But watch it might have a milk base not sure. He also gets very gassy which upsets his reflux so I give him gas drops. Ned more advice or just someone to talk to you can email me (LUVEBUG1748@SBCGLOBAL.NET) Good luck

They r suspose 2 outgrow reflux by 12 mths.My son had it severely as an infant. He is now 15mths & only spits up very little every few days now.He has been off of formula since 12mths.Zantac only relieves the burning sensation. There is really not a medicine that will make it go away.My son at4mths was put on a medicine that helps the stomach muscle to get stronger. As far as Laryn,&Tracheo, i have never heard of it,so i have no clue.
For my son some foods irritate his stomach more & makes him throw up more than usual.also if he is to full from juice or drinks it really fast he also throws up more.He was allergic to formula & was on Alimentum until 10mths & he outgrew it & went to soy.I really am sorry about your baby.I hope he outgrows all of it very soon.Maybe you should get a second & third opinion,if u have'nt already.

Hi , My son had this when he was born , as i did . My son is now 8 years old .believe me when i say this i tried every thing and the doctor even put my son on pricription formula . yes it was 45 or 50 dollars . my son sleep in his carrier in our bed in the middle between me and my husband . this would last for about first four months .beause he would throu up . so he had to sleep in a up right tilt. Then we moved him to his bed after 4 months and had to sleep on his belly so he would not chock if he throu up . no the 45, 50 dollar formula didn't work , then i saw Good Start on TV how it breaks up smaller in side of the baby . Guess what it worked unreal !!! My son is fine now and no signs of it at all . But I on the other hand to this day (age 41) will throu up in a heart beat . What i have learned is to never over eat at all .Body will kick it out !!! ?Never after just eating to run around or start laughing , or even coughing alote . Try to be very still and relaxe for a little bit , but the key is eat a little then eat alittle later . ( this works for me )no anti acid would work on me beause it is not the acid that is doing it . This run's in my family . I would say try feed often and little at a time a no active activety till thing start to get better over time . Again i 'm not a doctor i just know what worked for me and my son . I hope some of it will hellp you .oh stay away from real mike ,or ice cream ect the milk could make one body kick it out .

Try switching him to "zantac" instead of the prevacid, and try using baby gas drops too, for formula use neutramagin (i think thats how u spell it...dont remember)
the baby gas drops are cheap (if u get the walmart brand) and they work really good.
the zantac (liquid of course) costs around the same as prevacid but worked 10x better for my lil one,
it was the best sleep i ever got!

My sisters daughter was also like that, she was constantly throwing up from the moment she was born. Her baby wouldn't even drink milk when she turned one so my sister went to the store she got pediasure cuz that's the only thing she will drink, and she bought something called apple vinegar since my sister started using that on my niece her acid reflux hasn't been acting up at all.Or just take her to the doctor. If you try it don't give him too much only about 2 teaspoons.

I consulted my husband on this because my stepson was born with reflux and he said unfortunately sometimes they DON"T outgrow it. Most babies do by the age of 2. He said to tell you to fix your son higher fat foods. you can message me for more advice. My husband will help you through it. Put "REFLUX BABY" in the subject so I know where it came from.

Has your pediatrician tried Lo sec on him yet, its the better form of Zantac .... and it hasnt got the peppermint taste to it ... Has he got digestive problems too ....with Lo sec depending on his reflux he can be given 2 doses a day. I would advise speaking to his pediatrician.

Bless your hearts. My daughter had reflux, but she grew out of it by 8 months old. I sure wish I could help you. Have you tried talking to someone who specializes in diets? Maybe they could help you figure out something you could do differently food and drink wise. My best wishes to you all.
