Yes. On more than one occasion I've noticed a mother walking with her small child, on seeing a puppy, say: 'Don't get close to it! It'll bite you!' - the child grows up with an unreasoning terror of dogs - no way of getting him (her) to approach even a puppy. No apply that to certain social groups, or certain races, where the parents' prejudices might be even stronger - the child will grow up strongly prejudiced, without even knowing why - so then he'll make up the most illogical reasons to defend his prejudice. I've seen that write here on 'Answers' often enough.

You bet they do. What do cildren not learn from their parents? They have to get to a place where they are secure enough to be critical of their parents and continue loving them to not adopt their parents' prejudices. That usually does not happen while they are still children.

parents are a big factor in it, but the rest of society also contributes by either instituting new prejudices or reinforcing the old ones.

Definetly, the parents are the first teachers to their children. A child learns by mimicking their parents.

They learn it. Prejudice and racism are definitely learned behaviors and attitudes.

They can learn it from a variety of sources. Relatives, other children, television, people even at school.
