I have two children, one age 5 1/2, one age 7, who are both ADHD. It's a hard thing to go through, especially when you're first starting out. Though I must say, medicine isn't the only answer. He needs support and people he can talk to when he's in a bind, and not just mom and dad. Make sure you get him a group he can be in. Not necessarily therapy, but some interaction with others his age that's positive, and something he enjoys doing.

I hope your son is being treated by a doctor for this. My son didn't get the treatment he needed back when he was 12 and he was self medicating himself with drugs all these years. He is 25 and in a detox center. This program is evaluating him to properly medicate him so maybe he won't continue to be an active adict. I tried to get him help but my husband at that time didn't agree with the doctor so he went untreated. I tried to fight him but he had custody and nothing I could do. I didn't even know he was an adict til 4 months ago and I have been on a mission to get him all the help he needs. I will pray for you and your son. Keep showing him love and hang in there when times are tough. It takes a special mom to give her son the love he needs. Best wishes to you.

Diet - Have your child begin to take a Probiotic routinely. Check with a health food store to see which one they recommend. Eliminate sugar from the diet and serve the child only fresh meat. No ham, hot dogs, bacon, or frozen turkey/chicken. It's got to be fresh, with no additives. The child can eat all vegetables excluding corn. Begin to read labels and stop using any item that contains corn, corn syrup, etc. This will eliminate most prepared food. Also eliminate dairy products, yes nix the cheese. The problem is more than likely the food he consumes. It will take a while to detoxify his body, but after three months on this diet he should be feeling much better. He may have to stay on this for the rest of his life - you can experiment after a few months and see if his behavior changes. Best Wishes.
