sounds like windows isn't seeing your video card correctly

If you know what kind of video card you have you can download the driver from its website and install.

if not and its not a intergrated video card and its a desktop. Turn it off open the case, pull the video card and look for the manufacutre and the card model Write that down and put it back in. Power up get back on the internet and go to the manufacutre website and download a driver.

its pretty simple.

also you might try going to www.dell.com and look for support and drivers.

Look for your card and again download the driver and installl.

The reason is you do not have a proper video drivers loaded for your video card. Drivers are software that allow Windows to communicate with your hardware (video card, modem, sound card, network card, etc) so that it can work correctly.

If you go on Dell's web site you can look up your computer model and download all the software you'll need for all your hardware. Only problem is your network card or modem driver is probably not installed either so this PC will not be able to get on the internet. Then you'd have to use someone eleses PC and burn them to disk. You should also have a Dell disk that came with it that includes all the drivers.

If you installed Windows XP instead of Win98 you most likely would not be having this problem. XP has support for a lot more hardware than Win98 does. But then if your running Win98 I bet your PC is so old and slow it wouldn't run XP so well.

Might be time for a new one.

you've lost the compatable drivers for your video card. without them you won't get your colors back, you need to find out the manufacturer, model, and probably the serial # of the video card and find their website and see if they have drivers you can download. What happened to your Dell Restore Disk? If you have it, use it to restore the computer.

Take it back to the person who formatted it and get them to do it. It maybe tricky to sort out on your own.
